    So I have a 45g hexagon tank that I am trying to visualize a set-up...do you think a freshwater planted tank would be cheaper than a saltwater tank? I was just thinking that I would have to have a sump for another saltwater tank but not even sure if that is accurate to say...

    Theres nothing that says you HAVE to have a sump. Its just nice for hiding equipment and adds water volume to your tank making it more stable. Not sure on the prices however never set up a planted tank.
