for the past year of running my 90 gal. reef tank i have used the super skimmer 125 by coralife.it has worked good and always produces good skimmate, however it is a litlle touchy with the adjustments, and the bubble level fluctuates as the water in my sump evaporates. also i have noticed that it produces fine microbubbles that are then put into my main tank. through my job at my lfs i recently aquired a brand spankin' new red sea berlin turbo skimmer and i am contemplating replacing the css125 with the red sea skimmer. any advice/experience/ suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    derek,
It sounds like you need to add an auto topoff to your sump to keep water height stable. I havn't used either of the skimmers you have. Most skimmers need a constant water level for optimum performance. The topoff will also benefit your animals to help with a more stable salinity.

is that a bluethroat trigger that you have in your reef pic??? i had one of those a while back and saw my nitrates shoot through the roof. Normally i add about a gal. of RO water for top off per day with a little pH or alkalinity buffers added to it. an auto top off would be very nice though. i run my tank topless so thats where most of my evaporation comes from.
