    I have both on different tanks. Go with the 6". If sump flow through is kept reasonably low (i.e. lower than the ratting of the skimmer pump and not more than a few times bigger than the display tank volume) and water level held constant, there will not really be any real world benefit to the recirculating skimmer. Also, 6" is really a bit better suited to your sized tank IMHO.

    recirculating tends to be a bit more productive as you do not have any fluctuations in water level, if you have an auto top off in sump would work just as well
