Which Skimmer to choose...

    So I have decided between a reef octopus 100g (see link below) or a Swc Xtreme 120. The only thing that is holding me back from the SwC is the price, If anyone knows where I could get one for $230 shipped or less then I'd go for the Swc.

    They are not the same skimmer... the Octo is for a 100g and the 120 is for 50g. The equivalent is a SWC 160 cone and those are $275. Much better skimmer IMHO.

    Thanks for the input, but $275 is over my budget lol The tank is a 20g with a 20g sump.

    I see.... the 120 would work then. The Octo would be a bit on the "too oversized" side. I'm not a big fan of going twice the tank size for a skimmer. You don't skim more, you actually make the skimmer perform worse than on a properly sized system. Both will "work".

    Between the two.. I would go with the SWC just because it is a better design and properly sized. The Octo will work for you though and you can grow a bit with it too to a bigger tank.
