I'm looking at replacing my seaClone 100 skimmer (piece of junk) and getting a better skimmer. I had originally thought I was going to go with a reef octopus skimmer but none of the footprints are able to fit my skimmer compartment. I am looking at the Bubble Magus Curve7 Cone Skimmer or the AquaMaxx ConeS CO-1 In-Sump Protein Skimmer. Both price and footprints work. Which is the better skimmer?

I have only heard good things from Bubble Magus. Haven't heard things about AquaMaxx.

Attempt to get a skimmer for approximately double your tank size, and get one that comes close to that criteria that fits your footprint.

I know these things can be expensive, but its better to save for longer and buy something quality then get something that might give you trouble down the line.

I got a 90g with a 30g sump so probably around 110g total volume. Both are rated for 175-180 so I think they are an appropriate size. I have been able to find a lot of reviews on the bubble Magnus but not too much on the aquamaxx. The only thing on the aquamaxx that intrigues me is the bubble chamber.

Go the bubble magnus. From what I have heard they are pretty top of the line.

I have reading a lot about skimmers and Bubble Magus comes up a ton, try reading some reviews then ask your LFS, maybe they can offer up some suggestions.

Ooops, I just reread what you wrote and you are already reading reviews. Check your LFS, they may be able to help. Bubble Magus gets pretty glowing reviews everywhere I read.

If your going with a nac 6-7, look at the SCA skimmers. same thing (clone) at half the price. I have one of the SCA 180g models and it works great.

Awesome thanks guys, I think I'm going to go with the Bubble Magnus. All the reviews I read and the forums have nothing but good things to say about them. Thanks all for the input

Like mentioned before the the SCA Skimmers are awesome. I have been running mine for almost 2 years. I just gave it a good cleaning tonight. It is pulling some really nasty dark brown crap out of my tank.
