I currently use an Eheim wet/dry filter on my 45-gallon tank. The Eheim is a huge media-filled cannister, which continuously fills and empties with water, creating great wave action in the tank. I obviously can not use an in-sump skimmer here. But which hang-on should I use? I know good operation is usually dependant upon maintaining a stable water level. But with the Eheim filter, the level goes up and down all day as the filter empties and fills (the waterline changes approximately 1-1/2 inches between fill and empty).

I am considering the Prizm skimmer, but if I get the Deluxe with the surface skimmer, I don't think the varying water level would allow the Prizm to operate correctly. And others, like the Seaclone, need the pump to be at a certain distance below the water line.

Before I spend the money, I want to get some expert opinions. Is a surface skimmer out of the question, no matter what I buy? Should I go with the regular Prizm without the surface skimmer?

Thanks in advance for any help!

This has come up a lot lately. ;) :)

Go with a AquaC Remora it's a better skimmer for the price.

Eheim makes a surface extractor, I used to have it. It's pretty good. Probably work with your filter.

    Thanks for joining!

I second that go with the Remora, no doubt. I also agree with getting the surface skimmer box for it.
