I don't really have much experience with skimmers myself, but I do see a lot people on here running the Octopus brand skimmers. I'm sure someone else will come along and help you out.

    What is your budget?
    is energy consumption an issue?

The AquaC is a beast of a skimmer but not as quiet nor energy efficient as a needlewheel. If you are choosing needlewheel, I woud say buy once and buy right. Best bang for the buck would be the SWC skimmers with Askoll pumps. I'm not a fan of the Octopus line as the pump is not one that will last over time. It is however cheaper and we are now seeing issues arising with the pump.

I am also a big fan of the new Warner Marine MF series skimmers as the MF-251 would work great, especially if sump space is an issue. The MF series has the smallest footprint in it's class.

I think the issue is with the Sicce pumps used on the older Octopus line, as far as I know the Bubble Blaster pumps used on the Super Reef Octopus skimmers are quite good.

it's the Sicce 2500 that're a problem. the new 1000 series is good.
