Just purchased an already existing tank from a friend...it had tons of algae growing in it, but there were all these nasty white- clear and green lined bacteria looking balls all over the rocks...

Don't have a pic yet, for some reason the camera isn't uploading. There was also some tiny little yellow thingies on the LR, looked like fuzz...

They're almost certainly sponges from your description. They are a sign that you're doing something right, and they're filter feeders, so beneficial to your water.

    Hey...

Does anyone know if pineapple sponges will in-toxicate my tank (intoxicate???haha), when they die? During the move I think a few of them maybe broke...

I don't believe they do. I have them all over my tank. I have lost quite a few sponges in my tank and none of them have ever released toxins (that had any noticeable affect anyway). I don't think it is there style.

I don't think so either. I think sponges for the most part have an inert body. Ever see a natural sea sponge? Just think, if we can allow an animal to die, and dry out; and it reaches a state where it neither smells nor leaves any residue when it's rewet, that speaks volumes.
