They are good. They help a tiny bit by cleaning the water. You just need a whole bunch of them to get a lot of use from them.

well theyre taking over my dry rock i put in there but not a single little piece is on the LR i thought that was weird even being new to the hobby. one of my cousins has just started a tank and also got it after his tank cycled he put a yellow tang and it looked like it was eating it.

I don't think so. Don't look the same.

Most important thing is to stay patient. Give the piece of equipment you can a thorough cleaning. Stay up on water changes.

I actually had a very similar looking growth in my 120DT - specifically on the "base" rock when I was nearing the end of my cycle. Pretty sure it's bacterial in nature.

I would suggest using some tubing and vacuuming it out - that's what I did and we have not seen it since - over 8 months ago.

After looking at those pics - the third pic on the right is def. what I had - if it's what you have - best to vacuum it out with some tubing and hopefully you will never see it again!

By the time we removed ours - it had started to colonize on the sand in places.

yeah it does worry me that it might be that but at the same time if its sponge i dont mind it. before i set up the equipment i did give it a good scrub but still couldnt get it perfectly clean because even when i went to my LFS and they tested my water they asked if i had used equipment. and it is only colonizing my base rock not my live rock well see how it goes. the tank is still cycling its been about 2 weeks im being very patient.
