Has anyone ever seen a mark like this on a yellow tang.. it is on both sides from just above the eye down to the bottom of his gill?? I ordered him online and he came like that(1week ago)? it almost looks like a scar... the water tests are all great (I even have the lfs run tests as well to make sure I'm doing them right)... he hasn't eaten shrimp or flake but he picks at the green algae in the tank he is pretty active and I will purchase some seaweed tomorrow to encourage him to eat...

    Welcome to 3reef

The tang looks pretty good outside of the mark. The mark looks like it is healed. Just keep track of them and make sure they don't get infected.

If it was infected it would look red and swollen.

What other fish do you have in with it.I had aBlue that used to rub on the rocks and scraped his self up.He rubbed his eye pretty good and it was swollen. It all went away and he was fine.He was trying to rub parasites off.You may have another fish fighting with him too.

Could be from rubbing, could be early HLLE . . . either way, I would start feeding heavily with vitamin enriched foods. For my tangs, I always have nori banded to a rock somewhere for them to graze on, and feed once a day either formula 1 flakes, formula 2 pellets, mysis, and/or spirulina brine . . . (usually a combo of 2 of these). Try a little garlic to entice the appetite, I use the juice from the $3 jar of diced garlic from the grocery store. just make sure the ingredients are garlic, water and citric acid.

I had the same problem. My yellow tang would sneak out late at night to knife fight... I never saw him fight either... :-[ stupid tang gangs so aggressive
