    Hey all,
I've suddenly come across this weird white stringy slime that is growing all over the glass in my display and also my sump. I've recently changed my old 10g sump to a new 30g sump. Along with it came a pretty large water change. I've got a 54 gal mixed reef that has been healthy for about a year now. The sump switch is the only thing that I can think of that might have caused it. All water tests are okay. What the heck? Anyone know what this stuff might be? Could such a water change have caused some sort of bacteria outbreak?

bacterial growth from excess nutrients probably stirred up from the move.

    Sounds like bacteria to me.

Hmm. I have a similar issue, but the white stuff in my tank is not slimy so is more likely detritus (disintegrating organic material). The problem I am having is trying to clean whatever it is without removing the crushed coral/sand substrate.

Speaking from experience: I hate crushed coral and would get it out of there. I had nothing but problems with Cyno and Green Hair algae until I removed the crushed coral.
