I just picked up a sailfin tang today. He looked fine at the LFS. He has been in my tank for a couple hours and I noticed little white specs all over his body. What should I do? I have never seen this before..

Feed him a garlic enriched food and he will probably recover fine. What are your water params? How big is the tank? How big is the fish? Any other inhabitants in the tank?

I dont know, at this point in time the ich is already in the tank and if all params check out, it was probably just stress induced from the move. Moving again would just cause more stress. I would test your water, turn the lights off and make sure no other fish are picking on him.

I had several damsels in there up till today. They were fine but I brought home the tang and a true perc so I moved them to make room. Yesterday the perams were fine, 1.023 salinity, 0ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate, 79 degrees. 8.3 ph. Tank has been up about a month with 40 lbs of LR. I did hook up a canister I had laying around today to get more flow. I put a bit of carbon pad in the canister if that makes any difference.
This is my 29gal tank. My 55 is currently cycling so the clown and tang are temporarily in this tank.

Could of been over acclimation. When I get fish I usually temp acclimate for 30min then add a cup of water and wait 15min, then repeat, and then put them in the tank with a net or my hand depending on the fish.

I am sure he is stressed. Should I just wait a couple days and see if he gets better?

Will it hurt any of my shrimp or the clown?

As long as the clown is healthy and eating it should be ok. I would feed them all garlic enhanced food if possible. Also, 29g is very small for any tang, and i'm not sure a sailfin would even be ok long term in a 55 gallon...

Your right, a sailfin needs 125g minimum. They are one of the larger tangs and needs lots of space even as juveniles. How big is it now?
