I just came home from a 2 day trip and when I got home I noticed my yellow tang, coral beauty, and clownfish all have white spots/bumps on them. I fed them all nori and frozen food with garlic and they all ate well. I can not add copper to the tank because it is a reef so what would be the best way to attack this? Are there any reef safe medications for ich?

Let's say I don't do anything and just feed them well. Is there a chance they could get over it on there own or are they doomed? My yellow tang looks the worst it's scratching against the rocks...

I have personally left ich untreated and had success. Garlic is great for this sort of thing and just keep feeding them. I am one of those nutty guys that thinks ich is everpresent and we must keep our fish healthy to help them fight disease like this. Take it for what it's worth.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll just feed them well and hope for the best. I'll let you guys know how everything turns out.

The yellow tang looks slightly better today, not as much white spots as yesterday. I just put another strip of nori in the tank and it's tearing it up as I type. I think I'm going to get a cleaner shrimp...I know it won't cure the ich but it won't hurt right?

yes, a cleaner shrimp is great to have in the tank for ich, however keep in mind that your dottyback may make a meal out of it sooner or later.

My purple tang had ich (crypto) pretty bad when I got her. Right now it looks like she kicked'em for good. She is over 1 month ich free. I fed her nori, garlic soaked mysis...ymmv, but I had success without copper and medication to answer your query.

I agree with the notion that it is ever present as well. Color me retarded. :p

Good luck and best wishes friend.

Hope the feeding and soaking the food works out for you. In my own personal experience it did not work - the ich got better, then worse, then better then worse, until I finally lost my flame angel. That's when I finally decided to put them all in a QT, treat with copper, and let the DT lie fallow for 8 wks. Not fun, but I had no other good choice. Hope you don't need to go through that (but keep it in mind if things deteriorate).
