White star what is it ??

    Found little white stars in the dt. And was wondering If they are detrimental to coral any ideas would be helpful

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    It is an Asternia star. Most are harmless grazers, some have been know to eat types of corals, zoanthids and coralline algae. Until it proves to be a coral eater I would just leave it be and watch for an increase in numbers. They can reproduce quickly in the aquarium by means of laterial fission

    Its called an Astrea star.

    There have been reporting of them eating corals and, i have had them eat some of my GSP and zoas. But for the most part, they are just algae feeders.

    Asterinid Star. They just hitchike on live rock. Some say they eat coral.

    There is only one species that is known to be a coral eater and they are very rare in the trade. Should be safe and a good member of your clean up crew.

    Yeah they are all over my tank and seem to be doing a great job of spreading coralline algea :)
