    What I have noticed with my live rock is when it gets moved around a lot some stuff will fall off / settle. It is just gunk that has died or settled on the rock. That is prob all that is going on there.

    I doubt that the crab was harming anything, he was prob helping clean the gunk up. They are cleaners after all.
