    Vessal sponge is a common name for them within the industry, it may not be called that in other circles.

    What industry, I can't get a single hit on that name in an extensive Google search, where that name is applied to any sponge ???????. I have been in this hobby for 35 years and have never seen that name. Any book or article in this hobby calls them as I posted Scypha or Sycon sponge.

    By the way how is Steve doing these days, didn't know he ws still in busniess

    dont they also call them qtip sponge. If i recall right, it was posted by karls a while back. Please correct me if wrong

    People often describe them that they look like a Q-Tip. I'll bet 90 % of all posts say, 'got these small white lookin things that look like Q-Tips, with a hole in the middle, like a chimney and a fuzzy top" . That is a good name for them, most will know what you are talking about :D

    The last time I had a salt tank I did not have any LR in it, so I missed all of this good stuff ( that was over 10 years ago)

    I GOT A WHITE THING TO I DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS. ITS IN A SPOT THATS HARD TO SEE BUT FROM WHAT I SEE IT LOOKS LIKE THE ROCK HAS MOLD ON IT, LIKE BREAD WOULD, BUT ITS WHITE

    More than likely it is a encrustating sponge, there are many species with this appearence, colors can range from red, orange, white, gray, blue, pink,etc., of varying shades
