I acclimate for 2 hours and in they go.

I wonder about FW dipping.....wouldn't that in itself cause some stress to the fish, going from a SW enviroment to FW then back to SW?

    Just curious.

    UVs?

I'm with SSSnake. I'd like to know that too?
I do run a UV in both my tanks and I take 2-3 hours for acclimating. How effective are the UVs?:)

FW dips do cause stess on fish, but I've never lost a fish doing it. If you adjust for pH, temp and aerate the water before hand it helps. I also use a 90/10% mixture of FW and SW along with Methylene blue which helps with Oxygen diffusion in FW and also calms the fish. I think the benefit of the FW dip is worth the 3-5 min of stress placed on the fis

I do both, FW dip and QT. Double protection when you have several hundred dollars of fish!

I agree money and space can be an issue when it comes to setting up a QT tank, but a descent one can be set up for $50 or less. 20 gallon tank, sponge filter, air pump, and heater with water and a couple handfuls of substrate from the main display tank can be all that's needed. Couple these with water quality monitering and water changes and you shouldn't have problems. People frequently spend more than $50 for a fish. That's a great investment when you have $300, $600, or $1000 of fish in a display tank. I guess one of the biggest reasons I am such a proponant of QT tanks is that I have sold tanks to people who did not want to spend the extra money on a QT tank. I proceded to sell them fish while they were buying fish from other suppliers as well. Six months later they came back to me, after losing all thier fish, wanting a QT tank and wishing they had done it sooner. Not to mention the loss of life that had to be replaced. In the end, they would have spent less with a QT tank. $50. I believe that if we are going to be pulling these animals from the wild we should do all we can to insure thier well being and not consider them "replaceable" as so many hobbyists do.

Nothing to do with buying or not buying fish, but most just can't be bothered.
