I only ever get a quick glimpse of this guy with in the holes in the rock. He came as a hitch hiker on my LR. I do have some corals in my tank, nothing has ever been bothered by him. Sorry all I have is a picture of the shed that I found when I was placing a new coral in my tank tonight. I placed the shed next to a teaspoon to get an idea of his size. What do ya think? Is he safe?

I'm not a crab expert, but it doesn't look reef safe, you should keep an eye out for him.

Crabs almost all look the same. You can see it's a true crab with an oval shaped carapace. It's extremely hard to ID the exact crab which is done by looking at very subtle things. And then you know what species it is and it's of no use since the species doesn't have a wikipedia page or google.image results. And you have just a shed.

    Hitchhiker crabs are not safe.

Lean a glass against the rock near where you saw the crab's molt. Put some kind of meaty food in it that sinks. When the crab goes after the food, it won't be able to get enough traction to get back out.
