well.. idk.. i would just get 2 clownfish and watch them pair up, rather than get them already as a pair.
IMO $100 is a bit much for clownfish..

The price depends on how much work you would want to do to get a pair yourself. What I mean is, I can get two clowns at my LFS for $50 or I've seen other good online dealers have them for as low as $12 each. Now these are already coming mated which can sometimes be a task in itself. The female clown can become very violent during the pairing process and result in nipped or torn fins on the male. So the question is do you want to spend that much and not have to go through the trouble of pairing them yourself and do you want to go the cheaper route. I have paired two sets of ocellaris clowns without a problem myself so I would vote the cheaper route IMO.

$100 for a pair of percs?!?!?!?!

Go to your LFS and for about $15 each you can get two percs and have them pair up. $30 or $100??? I'd take the $30 pair. Spend the extra $70 + shipping charges on something else. Those aren't even "mated". Paired and mated are just term,s added on to fish just like LE, ultra, and rare for corals.

i agree. ive paired about 4 sets of clowns.
( i had 2 pairs die on me when i had a secondary infection after an ich outbrake)
and now i only have my saddle back black and white and my True perculas.
I didnt have much trouble with the female getting to agresive, maybe a little here and there but the male clown managed :D
I would also go the cheaper route:p
unless you are eager to have a pair right now

are you willing to wait a year or so for them to form a pair?

with those clowns the chance of death during the pairing is very slim

I would have to disagree with you on that. Clownfish are very very personable and form tight bonds with their mate. I had a pair not too long ago and when one of them died the other became very depressed and would not eat for a few days and never left the same spot in the tank. When I got a new one, she perked right back up again. So yes, there is something to be said when fish are advertised as mated, it's not just another title for marketing reasons.

For percs or Occ.'s I would just buy two that arent paired and do that process. Yeah I dropped a 160$ for clownfish ... But mine arent your every day clownfish lol.
