my pair of black and whites are still more red than black, but I can already tell you which will be the female, she is already close to twice the size of the smaller one after just about a month and a half. took new pics last night, I'll post one when I get home tonight.

    Exactly.

These fish don't breed for life, and in most respects in the wild the female will have extra males at her disposal.

you dont have to buy a "pair" you just buy two juvenile clowns and they will pair up themselves. From my understanding when they are juveniles they are sexually indeterminate and as they age they work out who will become the female, this is the "pairing" process. I didnt see ANY type of aggression when mine pair up. I too would go the cheaper route.

i bought 2 of the black and white oc's Saltwater Aquarium Fish for Marine Aquariums: Black and White Ocellaris Clownfish - Tank-Bred from live aquaria during the last sale they had on them over a month ago. they are always together and do some kind of little wiggly dance at times. not sure what thats about. any way they are juveniles and still small but very black. only time i see the one being aggressive is to its own refection in the glass at times after i clean. well and if i add a coral they seem to want to push it. they havent taken to the anemone yet. and are hosting the sand... ::) i also find it odd they seem to be collecting small shells and rocks and putting it in the spot of sand they think of as home.

I have 2 O. Clowns the first one I got was rather small and was fairly aggressive...when I bought the second one the next month the ones they had were much larger so the first one stayed male while the larger more docile one is the female and in turn the 1st one has calmed down a lot.
I saw no fighting but I chalk that up to the 2nd one being so much larger (by about half). They were both somewhat small when purchased but are getting big now.
Oh and they were only $10 each at my LFS.
