I just acquired one a couple days ago,it's the rs-80 model, however I see there were many different rs model versions with most being smaller than this. This is a beastly looking thing thats a little over 2' tall and a body about 7" in diameter.

I bought a setup the other day and this came with it,i've cleaned it and it runs fine, just trying to find out if it's a killer skimmer or not and if I should keep it for use or resell it?

I have the RC180 and it's a great skimmer. Not too finicky. But maybe feel around and see what you could get for it. When I got mine, they were selling for 900+, but I didn't pay for it, as it was a prize in a photo contest.

Thanks Renee, from what i've found, they did seem to be quite a pricey skimmer but one of the main reason for the question is i'd have to reconfigure my sump to accomidate this beast, which i would if it's considered a really good skimmer, but it would be alot of work to find out if it's just so-so.

Also looking at the possibility of this skimmer funding or partially funding my LED's.I wonder what a fair asking price should be on it if I do decide to resell it?

I do indeed like mine so that I'm transferring it over to my newest tank.

I'm running a modded redsea berlin atm and for my size tank and bioload have been pretty happy with it's preformance, but after yours and Whiskys comments on this unit and the research i've done,I may just go with the conversion of my sump and use it.

Anybody need an Aqua c Remora or a berlin skimmer?LOL

From what I remember the rc-80 was one of the smaller skimmers. For the time they were really well built and good performing skimmers. Now I would rate them as middle of the line due to the large pumps and lower air draw numbers.

Thats what I was refering to by saying there are different models of this seriers of skimmer, most i've found are small, some are even jacked up on eggcrate stands for proper water height, but like mentioned, this thing is a 2 foot tall beast,it's flat out HUGE,id use the collection cup for a cereal bowl :cheesy: and i've read pretty much the same as you,but most negative comments seemed pointed towards these smaller versions where on the big dogs,i can't find much info, but what i have found has seemed great. That confusion is why i brought the question to my trusted 3reef friends.

I owned a rc-135 a few years back and was very happy with it's performance and operation. They are very well built just the sedra 5000 pump was a little loud compared to the new skimmer pumps
