Following the tragic death of my blenny scooter "Hawk" :-/ I am in the market for adding another fish.

I have put myself in a bit of a difficult situation as my other two fish are a maroon clown and a strawberry psuedo....although i havent had any problems to date with either of them.

Any thoughts as to what would be a nice active addition to my 40 gallon hex tank would be greatly appreciated!!

a damsel could probably work, i was always a fan of yellowtails. a 6-line wrasse could work too, or a flame hawkfish? i dunno how the hawk would hold up compared to the other two i listed, but just a thought

I agree with United on this one. Is that a tall hex or a long hex. If it is a tall one you are going to have much less luck than a long one. It is going to be difficult enough as is without a stocking change. I think the wrasse could be a good choice since it has a different body shape than your current fish.

I like the wrasse idea or a small school of chromis! I despise yellowtails, although those 2 might hold up to them! Once in a tank though you're prob not getting them out!

Yeah i've already had to break my tank down once to get out a checkerboard wrasse that i mistakenly bought hah whooops...i've been thinking six line for awhile now, and i have some small inverts so i dont think the hawk fish would work...

Its a tall hex...just curious what difficulties your talking about 2in10?

None. A tall hex has next to no surface area and both of your current fish could(if they wanted to) kill nearly any fish they wanted.

I'm not too proud to throw everyone a "told-you-so" . Ever since the introduction of the sixline my strawberry psuedo has been harassing him with dashing attacks. The sixline held a small area of rock for a day or so, but has now been banished to the upper area of the tank behind my skimmer and spray bar. The fish is still eating whenever fed, and i havent noticed any signs of stress besides some bite marks on his side.

I'm going to try to redo the upper half of my rock scape this week, hopefuly the six line can find a home up there.

Does this sound like a recipe for ich? If need be i will have to break the tank down to remove the strawberry.

Any past experiences and input is welcome...thanks!!
