I've been using the icecap 250w electronic. Gonna go M80 magnetic to use the radium bulb when I setup my next aquarium. Other than that bulb I would stick with electronic.

    I use both.

    Hamilton Tech 2 x 250W Magnetic
    PFO 1 x 250W Electronic (2 of these)

SPS 14K bulbs on all 4 fixtures

The magnetic does run warm, but I wouldn't say it is a lot warmer than the electronic.
It does hum, but not as loud as my powerheads. It is about 5 feet from tank, can't hear it over the skimmer.

The magnetic does take longer to get to full power, but the coloring is better IMO. It just seems to be a much "fuller" light. The blue is a tad bit bluer, but noticeable.

Personally, I will get another magnetic when the PFOs go out.

I compared both PAR and color of magnetic and IC electronic ballasts on my tank.

I actually get better light and more PAR with the electronic ballasts, plus they draw less electricity, are smaller and weigh less allowing me to mount them wherever I want.
