Tangs are finicky and suseptable to ich. They are pooping machines and need solid cleaning mechanisms like a protein skimmer, UV sterilizer and regular water changes. Change out the floss on your wet dry regularly and the bio balls need to be cleaned. Bio balls should be cleaned in stages on maybe a bi-monthly or quarterly routine where you clean a portion of them at a time. You can separate them with a piece of eggcrate. Tangs can really fill those bio balls with nitrates. But, for the most part I've done well in the past with a purple tang. They are usually very hardy but also very tough on other tangs. I don't recommend too many tangs in a tank. Depending on the fish you have I like the cleaner shrimp I have. All my fish go to the cleaner shrimp to get at those parasites. I have 2 of them. I would also be a little leary of your LFS and how they get their fish. Many fish are caught with drugs and the fish die soon from the stress. Hey good luck with yoiur tank!
