That was just an example, the point is, better stuff at lower prices exists. And no, the SuperNova is not a Knock-off, if that is what you are referring to. It has been in planning for months before the radion pro was even announced, and will be out much sooner. The bridgelux fixtures also existed before the radion, and strides have been made very recently in LED spectral technology, in just the past few months to be exact. If I was a consumer, I would learn DIY very quickly, especially with fixtures that expensive.

That is a darn funny statement right there. You do realize Levi is a name brand right? You realize some people pay $15 for jeans at Wal-Mart right? You do realize some people buy Levis for $10 at the thrift store right? so does that make you a snob for buying new Levis... to some it most certainly does.

Here is the beautiful part...if you feel that what you are getting is not worth the price it costs... DON'T BUY IT. Some people just happens to have disposable income. Some people have no problem paying for it. Some companies TARGET those people with the products they put out. Sure the market share is smaller, but the profit is greater. Some companies choose to go after the middle of the market. Broader range, but then they have to compete with many more companies for their piece of the pie.

There isn't one single product on this planet that does not have a price range of "bare bones cheap" to "sky's the limit" pricing. If you don't have the money for "sky the limit", don't complain about those that do. They are not sheep, they are just wealthier than you. Hell, a $1000 light is silly... get into photography and buy a $1000 lens, or a $80,000 HD camera. Heck, get into audio equipment and pay $10,000 for a phonograph cartridge... not the turntable, the needle itself!

This same argument goes on in every single hobby... the funny thing is...this is a HOBBY...meaning it is not necessary.... ask what the rest of the world thinks about paying $200 for a cheap skimmer to keep salt water fish in a glass box.;)

I am not trying to criticize your company nor your products which I acutally like! I'm also not calling your product a knockoff however even you know that there are many other fixtures out there with the same exterior design as yours. Certainly nothing revolutionary. I am simply making the comparison more relevant in regards to pricing strategy and market share. At this time, Reef Breeders is not a large market player. Look at the specs of the phones that those companies produce. The specs are as good as the Samsung and HTC. So why are they relegated to obscurity. I'm sure there are fans of their products who say things like, "It honestly disgusts me that people will spend that kind of money " or "sheep" in regards to those who pUrchase any brand named Droid phone like Samsung or HTC.

It's not available for pre-order till November. How is it already sold out?

I considered the Radion for awhile to replace my SOL when i had my cube. Ultimately i decided not to because if i ever upgraded tank it would cost an arm and a leg to light a larger tank.

I can definitely see the appeal in these lights, the sleek design and how it works with the pumps is amazing.

Asking why certain lights are so expensive is like wondering why they produce Ferraris....because they sell. this has already been said, just a different example was given.

This is bull. Anemone posted an almost exact cost structure to what the Radion truly costs. Ecotech certainly didn't spend millions on it, and most of the hardware can be bought off the shelf and made into a similar light for 1/3rd of the price. Go check my DIY build if you don't think so.

You also mentioned Apple, Samsung, and no name phones. Those high powered phones that include gps, cell radio, graphics cards, dual core cpus, touch screens, ..etc and are used very much day to day are only ~$650 retail! This is with millions spent on R&D, advertising, etc. You honestly think a light is worth $300 more than a phone? lol

Those phones can also be bought subsidized at $199, and the no names are priced at similar prices as the big names, which is why they sell less. When Ecotech subsidizes me at $199, I'll give them my money.

No, Ferraris have performance and style that is unmatched by your typical Toyota. You cannot also build your own Ferrari with off the shelf parts in your garage. If I could, I'd DIY one of those too.
