I completely agree with you. They're lights are pretty awesome, but not at that cost! I'm surprised at how many people still buy them.

Check out the comments in the reef builders article, not too many people are happy with the price. I think they will drop it, and soon with what people are saying. Any retailer in their right mind would do that.

The fixture is only worth what someone will pay. Considering it's sold out, I don't see the price coming down. There is a lot more that goes into pricing than the actual costs of building a product.

It is obvious to me that many of the smaller companies in this industry don't understand that. It's what separates the big boys from the little boys. Many hobbyist may not understand but there is a massive difference in companies like AI and Ecotech in comparison to Reef Breeders, Boost LED, Orphek, ect... Trust me, size of the company had nothing to do with it.

Engineering Excellence is priceless. I do not think that you are right the Americans are the only ones that spend money on items. If it's priced to high the consumer market will bring it down eventually, A company does not make money unless they sell.

Oh, I know it, believe me. But you do need to know, they are 2 different industries. Again, take apple, and samsung as an example. They sold something better, cheaper, it is a different consumer that they are catering to, as are we. There are a couple types of consumers, the ones that spend a ton without doing too much research, and the ones that do the research, and buy a better, or equivalent product, at a lower price. The smallest group is the ones who do the research, and choose to buy the higher priced units, as it caters best to their needs, and they have the money to do so, of course. So just because we are a small business, it doesn't mean we do not see what is going on, and understand how the industry works. Trust me, at the prices ecotech pays, the radion pro costs around $200-$300 a unit to build. The engineering is about $10,000, as they mostly used the stuff on the old radion for the new one, like the casing, fans, and heat sinks. PCBs, power supplies, and computer chips cost about $1,000 to develop, each, and only required modifications from the old radion, not a complete rebuild.

I'm sure you have pruchsed some overpriced products in this hobby. As a matter of fact I probably could call you the same with your live goods purchasing. We just had a LFS runa sale on yellow tangs. And not tiny ones, medium size ones. first one was $19.99, second one would be $14.99, third one would be $10.99. I pretty sure no LFS would even consider selling one at $19.99 much less $10.99. So we all are sheep in a sense at one point or another.

yea my lfs has sales on yellow tangs for around 20-25 dollars. Depends on sale.

A month or so ago they had a 50% off all livestock and corals sale, that was killer.

But aren't you more like the unknown $200 smartphone makers like Zopo, Haipai, Da Peng, Digjoy, or Yoka ranther than Samsung? Let's be real here.

Samsung just lost a billion dollar product because they did not build a "better, or equivalent product, at a lower price." They copied the better product and we all know a knock off rarely if ever beats the knock off.
