$25 for a RK2 with a new temp probe was the latest acquisition . . . I dont think I could have forgave my self if i passed on that deal. I scour craigslist very often and send a lot of emails looking for the best possible prices on my equipment and/or livestock. It takes some patience, but I view t as another fun aspect of the hobby.

We spent the most time researching the skimmer. Ended up buying from my LFS event though it was cheaper online. Gotta keep the local good guy in business.

I spent the most time researching my lighting. Second was my skimmer. One thing I have NOT done is skimp on really anything I put in my system. You flat out pay for mistakes three fold down the road when 1.) the part doesn't work as planned and damages your work in progress and 2.) you have to buy what you should have in the first place.

The poll won't let you pick more than one but I spent more time on picking out my last return pump. Looking for the lowest price, quality, quietest and how many gph. It seems I spent 2-3 days talking to LFS, forum people and reading and looking on-line. Finally chose Mag 7 for my 55 gal. and it worked out perfect, that was nice for a change.

I spent the most time deciding on my tanks size/dimensions. After I threw myself into the custom arena, the relative cost of my other components seemed to matter a lot less (don't tell my wife though).

For most everything else, quality and performance has driven my decision with a little bit of weight given to the latest/greatest (skimmer, controller).

Chiller for me, went with brand that I found best reviews for of the models available to me here - so I did go for best quality but within a reasonable price bracket.

my two latest and greatest purchases were my apex controller and xp-2000 skimmer.

Really I would have selected would be all of the above if listed. Yea Im price consious even if the item is expensive I look in my emails and see what coupon codes I have to use on sites, I like to have the newest toy (who doesnt?) and I want it to be of the best quality within my spending constraints.

Truly the best quality is most important... maybe not best but great to best. I dont want to spend money on something that 6 months later Im gonna be upset with cause it has caused me problems or it doesnt perform to expectations.

So really at times I like to factor all 3 in. Sometimes the newest piece isnt the best for you or your system. Lets face it some of us dont have the luxuries to drop bukoo dollars on items. and we are always striving to get the best for what we can afford.
