So you're saying 8 gal doesn't fit in a 5 gal pale? lol....Sorry to hear that happened. It always seems that things go wrong in the middle of the night. I had a clamp come loose on me in the middle of the night once from my overflow on my old 55 gal and it dumped a few on the floor. Luckily it didn't make it to the apartment below me lol.

This is one more reason I want an Apex. I however haven't found that money tree that my mom said was growing in the backyard...

If you don't let the cup drain into an external bucket, than you won't have this risk ;)

Haha, yup, that's exactly what I changed. I took the hose off and plugged up the drain. I turned down the air to run the skimmer a bit dryer. I am hoping I have taken care of the problems I had.

I do also turn it off whenever I know I put amino acid foods in there too.

Your airline could be plugged. Also skimmers aren't going to produce skimmate consistently 24/7. You could have the water height set when there isn't enough gunk to produce foam, so when There is enough, it will produce like crazy and overflow.

HI Matt, what's worse is the skimmer puts out to a bucket, and an ATO dumps alot of RO/DI back in dropping the SG real low.
    Heard of that too.
There's a reason why I don't use my skimmer cup drain to a bucket. HYou just found the reason. Actually, you can put a float valve on the bucket, so when it's full, it overflows bvack into the sump.
Or, there is this really exspensive shut of valve- similar to the one I use for my RP- except more exspensive.
If you wanted it to drain to a bucket- ?, you could rig the devise i use so my DT never overflows -(to date, it's just been insurance- never really needed it- yet)
To rig that device- about $75 shipped.
Or a similar sensor for an Apex.

My advice?? plug the drain, IF it overflows- runs back where it came from- the systems water, and empty the cup every day of so.
