This is reef related but it concerns a particular store. I received a $50.00 gift certificate for my b-day for DrF&S. I'm happy right? I'm going to put it towards the Hydor Slim Skim Nano Skimmer. I'm thinking it's only going to cost me ( out of pocket) $54.00 right? NOT! DrF&S wants $129.00 for the skimmer!! WTH? 5 other places online have it priced at $104.00+ shipping which still makes it cheaper then F&S.
I wrote them an email asking why their price was $25.00 higher then anyone else's. Their reply: we're sorry we can't match their prices. If there's anything else we can do to help you please feel free to contact us any time.
This just pisses me off!!! UGH!!! GRRRRR...ok I'm done now. Thanks for letting me vent :)

To understand retailer pricing, you would have to know their wholesale supplier. I've worked in retail before, and I've seen the difference in prices for the same exact items from different suppliers. In some cases, I saw where the wholesale price from supplier A was higher than the suggested retail price from supplier B! Then you get into the situation where the retailer has a supplier contract- they can't just buy from the cheapest supplier without switching their entire inventory...

    Hope this helps. :)

I understand retail/wholesale. Yet I still can't accept a $25 difference say between WalMart and Target. Makes no sense. The other sellers of the skimmer are well known as well. Remember it's not just the one either. It's 5! 5 other stores selling it for $25 cheaper then F&S. No something else is at hand then where F&S is buying theirs from.

Maybe you should get something else from them that is a competitive price and the skimmer elsewhere.

Exactly what I did :) i had to use the certificate. Still makes me mad though-I never buy from DFS because they are more expensive then most :(

This is why I have like 4 different places I shop from for dry goods/equipment. Some places even with shipping are cheaper than others depending on what it is. Then again I am a little OCD when it comes to certain brands for certain things.
