Why Don'y My Zoanthids open?

    I have a colony of about 15 zoanthids and in the daytime when my light is on only about 5 open up. Why would this be happening?

    Mine do the same. Do you have any aptasia growing near. Mine are really sensitive to that!

    Mine did that when they were too high in the tank. Try putting them lower.

    They are almost on the sand. About two inches away... And no aptasia...

    Any detritus build up in the colony? Are they getting enough flow or too much flow?

    flow,detritus buildup,nudibranch or other pest?

    mine had this issue and opened up after a few weeks on there own but what are your water paramters?

    I agree, flow too much or too little, a crab, snail, or fish could be pecking at it, and it could to not enough or too much lighting. Did you just get it? If so it could take a week or so for all of them to open. Plus, sometime not all will open up at times.

    Havent checked my parameters but all my other coral is doing great so I don't think its that. Could a shrimp be making them close because I sometimes see them walking on them? Besides that it may not be getting enough flow or lighting. HMMMM...
