Working in the hospital, it was always safe for me to stay.... except they wouldn't allow dogs. And I'm sorry, I'm not leaving my dogs as I run to safety. My dogs only left when a big one was aimed right for my town. I didn't go because I was on vacation in Canada! Thankfully I was totally prepared and my sitter was able to just grab the travel crates with hurricane supplies inside.

One time I wasn't watching TV for a few days and I actually missed the opportunity to leave. That was a little nerve wrecking. I just sat their with my camera (to keep my mind occupied) and taped it rolling in. But I almost died when I finally tuned on the TV and heard the alarms. Woof! I would have at least went to a better shelter than my 3rd floor apartment.

During another the tornado alarms were going off, again, before i realized it had gotten that bad. There was horizontal rain, hail and lightning like I had never seen.... like a strobe light. I put my leashes on my dogs and headed to the bathtub.... I've spent many a night in the bathtub.

Click on the Long Beach one in the link above.... that will be me. How are we suppose to survive that!!! I hope my parents never run across that link or they'll really hate me living here. I honestly don't feel as good about living here anymore. I'm well versed on EQs, but that animation brought it home. It's not the EQ that I worry about persa, it's how the communication will vanish..... and I won't know where the kids/husband are and if they are safe. I pray we are all in the same place so I can protect them the best I can.

We'll be slaming back at forth at 2 feet a sec. Some places are predicted to move 6 feet a second! Slide back and forth on your floor, 6 feet every sec.... 2 is bad enough. Poor palm Springs.

Anyone have suggestions for attaching nanocubes to their stands?

Anyone have their tanks added into their insurance?

Suggestions for long range CBs or 2-way radios that would actually work in city conditions (3 miles)?

I have a backpack ready to stuff my dog into. LOL. She won't be amused.... but none of us will be amused if it comes to that. But then I won't have to worry about where she is or carrying her.... she'll be on my back like a baby.

I'm up in the Antellope Valley, if that makes you feel any better. We're right along (on top of) the fault line, and that model says we'll be feeling 1.4 m (4.5 feet) per second of movement. My tank will go from the wall to the middle of the living room in less than a second or two.

Now that I'm typing this, I'm starting to get paranoid about living here too. Why did I ever leave Wisconsin???

If the "Big One" hits, the tanks are gone and really won't be of any concern. But there are lots of smaller rumblings that would benefit from being held securely to the house structure. We have lids on all our tanks because of the last few EQs. There was enough water slosh that a fish could have been bailed.

After watching the animation, I turned to my husband and said "Is the earth going to move like that or is that just for demonstration purposes". Answer: "It's going to move like that".

    Perfect.

I'm going to go watch your video.

If you have a gas furnace/gas hot water heater/gas dryer, have you secured those?

I think this is wise. I just got a case of water that I'm keeping in the basement, new flashlights, and the like. We don't have the same issues as you but if the New Madrid Fault ever goes, there's going to be some issues right here in the midwest too.

The old saying is very true. Failing to plan is planning to fail. Case in point. One of my friends daughters was babysitting in a house that didn't have a basement. Tornado developed quickly and made a mess of the neighborhood. Because her parents had disaster plans they practiced with the kids she knew what to do. When the tornado passed and she could be reached, she had both kids under her with a mattress over all three of them. That's pretty amazing for an 11 year old. (Even more amazing was that she somehow moved the mattress.....she can't weigh over 90 pounds. Must have been adrenaline).

    So, I'm packing....

Awesomeness. My dog will fit in here.

    For us.

    Fire starter stuff.

Always good to have extra rope.

Someone said this in the reviews and I almost died. "If you find yourself stuck in a place high up because zombies or some other form of danger is beneath you, you could lower yourself down with this paracord once the danger had passed or was eliminated. That is unless of course you weigh more than 550lbs. In which case you're probably awesome enough without the paracord considering you climbed to a high place in the first place."

If I have to dip into the 50g water drums.
