If you have a Durso stand pipe, I opened up the air hole on top. Some will buy a valve of sorts, like the one that comes with an air pump and thread the hole and screw in the valve that way they can regulate the amount of air being sucked in. It is a combination of the return pump and the air hole. One small caveat is if you change the power heads flow the over all flow to the over flow will push more water in the over flow faster and that will cause an issue.

No Durso stand pipe for me, just a simple overflow box. It's in the back chamber of my biocube so there are now powerheads pushing flow into it either.

Well I lowered the flow down a good deal and it seems to have solved the problem for now. It's just there's not a lot of flow coming out of the return, but there is still water overflowing but seems like a lot less than I expected for some reason.

Normal for cutting back on flow. The recommended flow for sumps is 10 times its volume.

Well I thought I had it fixed but it's doing it again. The flow restrictor on my return pump is almost all the way closed so I can't reduce the flow any more than it already is without completely closing it off. Any other ideas?

Have you run airline tubing down the overflow line through the air hole. You will need to move it around until you fine the sweet spot.

There is a roughly 6" long piece of hard airline tubing that came with it that I have inserted into it. What's the best way to go about adjusting that?

Will bends in the drain line cause this problem as well? The pipe follows an S-shape where it drops about 4', then goes up about a foot and then drops back down into the fuge. I could possibly make it a straight path but that would involve some carpentry work on the stand.

Edit: Sorry, just noticed your other post on hear, must have missed that one.

Two things that made mine quiet

    1. Put a couple bends in teh drain line
    2. Us flexable airline tubeing and put about 8 to 12" down the drain and take the rest and slip it to your overflow box so it does not get wet...you and put more in ot take some put until it stoprs gurgling
