hey guys can you guys ID what kind of skimmer i have, and im not sure how high the water level should be. im wondering because it isnt producing any skimmates. this is a used skimmer not new, the guy used it for a week and upgraded to a bigger one. but im wondering why it isnt skimming black gunk becaise my tank was running for a week without a skimmer.

the pump is a aqua euro usa pump thats all it says.. oh and i have no baffles! its the overflow going into a filter sock into the sump with the return pump and heaters. no baffles whatsoever.

looks like an an aqua euro 135 recirculating protein skimmer. Good brand, good skimmer.

How long have you had the skimmer running for? and have you adjusted the return port from the skimmer to raise the level inside?

2 days, don't worry. It's still not broken in yet. You should see in about 4-5 days. I wouldn't play around with setting quite yet. You'll have to fine tune it, after it breaks in. If you force it, you're running the risk of the skimmer pumping straight water into the collector cup. It looks fine for now.

Your skimmer is going through a break in period. This normally lasts between 1-2 weeks depending on the amount of oil residue left on the plastic from the machining process.

Is there any bioload in your tank?

did you rinse it well, or maybe run it in a bucket with vinegar/ water for a while? That should get rid of some of the oils, etc. Still has to break in though.

Yup, still breaking in. Mine took about 7 days to break-in.

Side note, running a skimmer in a sump with no baffle for a constant water level area will greatly cut down on the consistency and overall performance of your skimmer. Might be worth looking into installing one.

    Great looking tank though.

The post says it was only used for a week. There could still be some break-in time on that badboy. Obviously something else could be the cause. Any suggestions packleader?
