Why no tank of the month on 3reef?

I like 3reef more than any other reef forum. Only thing is I would like to know why there is no tank of the month and if it is possible to coordinate one. Moderator please chime in on this. A forum that shall not be named had a great TOTM thread and it was amazing to see how many greta tank where out there. i believe we have plenty to share on 3reef as well.

I agree..Something new on here would be pretty cool! I do like the TOTM idea.

 

Our fish of the month and coral of the month have been popular. We also have more contests than most forums. I'll bring this up to the admin/mods.

 

I know what u mean. Some of those tanks on Reefkeeping.com are amazing!! Something along those lines here would be a nice touch.

 

I like TOTM...but how would it be selected? Would there be an entry form? User voting? So many would enter it would overwork the mods. We cut TOTM on one of our local forums for a bit, it would be nice to see it here...just as long as no one photoshopped their tanks, but thats another scandal...

 

I would love to volunteer to help if at all possible.

 

Couldnt there me a limit on how many entered? Say the first 25 entries or whatever. The bottom 15/20 of that pool would have to wait a month before reentering giving another 15/20 members a chance the next month. You get top 5 you get an automatic rentry?

Not sure if I like the user voting but perhaps a panel of judges? Pictures and details submitted privately? That way when the TOTM is presented it will be a unique first impression to all members of 3reef.

 

Here is my 2 cents:

The mods and I are currently pretty pushed with moderating, FOTM, COTM and contests. It would be difficult to manage a TOTM too. With this in mind, I actually started posting nice tank threads on the homepage from the Show Off board. So, in a sense, you are getting TOTM a few times a month.

It took a while to get the consistency up with FOTM and COTM - but I think we have a rhythm there now. And our contests are clicking too. The last one was a smash.

Other sites put a lot of focus in TOTM and not the other stuff. It is hard to do all ... especially every month.

So my personal opinion is that to do this right in addition to what we are already doing would require more than we have right now. It is a serious commitment month in and month out from somebody (or many) to co-ordinate.

As the site grows and evolves, maybe we can do it all (it helps to have more members and nice tanks). Until then, I'd like to polish what we have.

I believe TOTM is diffrent from FOTM or COTM. not saying its better but differs in why it is valuable. I can get into detail about this however I would like to here others chime in. I personally have decided to take a step back from my tank but my obsession with the hobby and with this site will probably never die.

I would like to find what it would take to get possibly atleast a presentation or beta version, or smaller versions. There really is an extreme quality to tank of the month and it is my honest opinion it will bring more members into the site as well.
