Well all tangs like to graze. I think you might be going down the wrong path if you are thinking your tang is going to cure your algae issue. lower your nitrates and phosephates and your algae will reduce. Getting a tang will not solve this issue.

+1...tangs will graze but not your best option for getting rid of algae. Try to go the route of cutting down on food some, cut down on lighting, testing your water for phosphates, etc, as well as using RO/DI water for changes/top offs if you can. Also, if it becomes a real problem I would look into getting a phosban reactor which aren't a bad idea to be running to begin I guess. Not sure what type of algae you have, guessing green hair algae, but if it gets bad i heard sea hares are really good for that but you might run into trouble feeding it once the problem has been taken care of. A good cleanup crew from reefcleaners.org might be in store as well depending on the situation of your tank right now

I think if you are slowely making a cleanup crew then you should focus on that rather then getting a tang that honsestly wont touch your algae issue. You need to focus on the root of the algae and get that under control. Post the specs of the tank and its age and a recent test of all the basics and we can better help you resolve your algae issue.

Its about 6 and a half months old but see i got rock from someone in my family that was tearing down their tank and got all of the live rock from them so the tank really only sat for a day and never cycled so the algae came on the rocks and he had no cleanup crew so then the algae just spread to the whole tank and became an issue. i got my water tested a week ago and i dont remember waht it excactly was but the nitrates were high but no an issue and my phosphates were high so i bought phosban and put it in between my filter pads. So now i decided not to get a tang cause i was just wondering cause i had a chevron and he kinda help clean of some of the algae.

Sounds like that rock came out of a tank with very high Phos if your gettin high reading with using RO/DI on all of your water.

Start with 4 day 2.5% water changes for a couple weeks.

If your GHA is that bad pull it off as well as you can and tehn only feed max every 4 or 5 days

My Sailfin Tang for some reason loved GHA and toook it down too nothing in a matter of a month, But I had to get my Phos under control as I had cheated a few times and had to add some top off water and used the old tap and charcoal...MISTAKE

So make sure you do one thing....Go buy a total test kit and test every 4 or 5 days as too Phos & nitrates and what is your nitrite readings?

You said my nitrates were high but not an issue! if your nitrates are high it is an issue!!!!! get your water tested get it correct and there is no issue! a tang is not the souloution the water quality is!
