Do you only get wild colonies there, or do you have the accessability to aquacultured corals such as those from ORA and others?

I know indivduals offer frags from their colonies but is it an industry like here in the states, where corals are aquacultered for long periods of time and then released for sale.

    Hi Corailline
all the corals I posted on this thread are on frag plugs or discs
there, there are a few stores supplying corals of this type now
not designer corals or named SPS but there are a number of people fragging on a large scale and many of these frags are available

we have Chao Bao which is the Chinese E bay and there are 3 sites on there from which I can mail order corals, fish and dry goods

here are a couple of images I captured in 1 LFS
not a vast choice - but a better choice than wild collected SPS IMO
my sucess rate with wild collected is 1 win and 2 fails
my sucess rate with frags is 30+ wins and only 1 fail

    Thanks Steve,

I was hopeing (sp) you would post some pics of the LFS. Actually surprised at the availability you have. Here in Tucson only one out of 4 stores has anything close to that.

Go to some midwest states and you will only see fish, and soft corals. I realize that geography plays a huge role, but so does demand. Reefing must be more common there than I had thought.

Its not badly represented to be honest there are Chinese language forums
1 I know in Beijing and another in Hong Kong
and the amount of imported product, brand named equipment increased almost on a monthly basis ( Just last week I found the full range of Brightwell product and API tes kits at one store - never seen these outside of the forums for the 2 years plus I have kept saltwater in China)

Question without starting another thread. This newer trend of calling some acropora "Deep Water Acropora", has me baffled. I get the idea that they are collected in deeper water, but relative to what? And the debate on the differences in color and polyp extention between deep water acropora and the standard acropora. Is there some truth to the idea that deep water do not need the same intensity of lighting to maintain color?

This green acropora is 2 inches away from the RP, these pictures were taken at the same time. The Neon Green Acro, is supposed to be a deep water acropora.

If anybody can shed some light on this I would appreciate it. TIA

I mentioned about deep water corals in one of my posts and one of our sponsors mentioned that is more buzz word than anything else. They still need the same lighting as any other Acropora. Deep water is being applied to corals with few polyps. So it appears to be marketing.

I was under the same conclusion with regard to marketing. It certainly is working, everyone wants ' deep water acroporas".

Do you have any deep water acropora by any chance ?

Would a sps like Lokani acropora be considered a deep water ?
