Hi, I was looking at my tank the other day and i noticed white specks stuck to the side of glass. on close inspection i noticed some of them had a spiral much like a snail. They are very small and white. Some recently purchased live rock had tons of tiny snail looking things too. Are they the same? or more importantly what are they?
Thanks for reading, i'll try to post pictures.

Are you sure their snails.? Are the moving? You also said they had a spiral look to them. If not snails they are probly feather duster witch is harmless filter feeders.

Just keep an eye on the shell development to make sure they're not the pesky kind ;)

Thanks for the replies, they don't move so I guess they probably are tube worms. I just had no idea they could multiply that fast.

Do you have a magnifying glass? If so, check them out. If they have a spiral shell and a feathered head (normally invisible to the naked eye) then they're spirorbid worms. If you have a few, you'll have a hundred thousand in no time. Fear not--they're beneficial, but they will multiply like rabbits on every available surface. I have them inside my sump, skimmer, and all over my LR.

Here's a couple of pics: (Photo credits to inwall75, from his original post.)

Click on the words "original post" from my post above.

Also, I'm sorry to have misspelled the word spirorbid above.
