    Update ...

I just wanted to post an update to the progress of my tank.

First Spiderman is doing well. He is a voracious eater and gets fed twice a week.
    http://www.3reef.com/forums/tropical-fish/tang-my-29-gallon-67091.html

Second, I just had my first battle with cyno. I won by getting:

    1) RO/DI filter for all my aquarium water (and my drinking water also, tastes great!)
    2) Phosphate reactor from TLF
    3) Being more consistent with my water changes (~7% every week)
    4) When the cyno was on the run I finished it off with some Chemiclean

    Upgrades:

    - Switched out the two MJ400 powerheads for two Korelia Nanos. I really like the Korelias!
    - Added a phosphate reactor
    - Reduced return pump flow from sump to increase skimming. Thinking of replacing Mag 5 with an Eheim 1250 return pump
    - Modified the drain plumbing to my sump, which is an ongoing proposition. I still am not satisfied grrrr (see below)...

    Problems:

My biggest problem now (after the cyno) is the moisture problem I am having in the stand where the sump resides. It may be related to the drain plumbing into the sump and the associated "spray". Looking for suggestions, here is a link to that thread:

    Finally:
My tank doesn't look like total crap for once in several months, so I will try to get some updated pics this weekend.

    Thanks for looking!

lookin good. if you want to get MH lights for this tank i have a K-2 Viper and am VERY pleased with the light output and overall look of it. i have the 150W version and have frogspawn, kenya tree, clam, and ricordea shrums and after christmas many, many more! if you want a MH light i would look into this light.

Nice to see another sump with no baffles. Our set-ups looks amazingly similar. Great minds think alike:)

    upgrade that light now!

and get some coral frags in there!!!!!

    4x24 T5's minimum.

I would do as someone else suggested and get the 150w MH. You will not regret it, get a phoenix 14k bulb or radium 20k... you will not be disappointed.

might be a little weird at first because of the blue, but once the bulb burns in after 2 weeks and you've got a few little fluorescent softies in there...

and take the prefilters off your overflow return plumbing... the sponges... get rid of them... it reduces skimming efficiency to your protein skimmer, trips detritus which just breaks down in the pre-filters and releases compounds that would otherwise get filtered out by your protein skimmer.

the whole point of the overflow is to skim the protein rich surface of the water then you plumb this to the sump and your skimmer works more efficiently, it's a simple way to really get way better filtration... you may have some noise issues but a little tweaking will fix that..

really great set up though your plumbing/filtration is excellent.

Thanks for the responses. I actually have a couple of upgrade projects I plan on working on over the next few months.

First off, I plan on building a smallish refugium out of acrylic that I will place next to the sump. It will be a couple of inches taller than the sump to allow a drain back into the return section. I am also looking at getting a new needle wheel skimmer (see thread here).

If I get a new skimmer I will have to add a baffle to keep the water level constant.

Another acrylic project I have in mind is an enclosed box for the drain to keep spray down.

I plan on getting a new light around February, followed by some zoa and ricordia frags from Reef Gardener. Here is the light I plan on getting:

    24" 1 x 150W plus 2 x 24W T5 Oceanlight Combo - 941811

Makes sense. Thanks I'll give that a whirl.

    Coming soon ...

sounds like you have a plan coming together. that light should allow you to put anything you want in the tank.
