I already have a thriving rose BTA, and was wondering if a young pair of black percula clown are likely to accept it as a host?

That's a definite maybe :) It took my false perc almost 2 months to nest in mine but now they won't leave it.

well, I'm not sure if my info is right, but I alked that question a few times at different stores, and they told me, that if you get a tank raised pair (which I would), they will not go in ANY anemone. They say, it kinda got bred out of them.
Wild ones would go in though.

Well, my damsels have been particularly nasty lately, so I doubt I'm going to subject any new fish to their attacks. Once I can snare them (maybe just a couple?) out of the tank, I'll consider the black clowns again.

Most likeley. It depends on if they are true australian BLk perculas or A. Polymnus (commonly sold as black percs.) or black ocellaris to what degree they will take to one (usually).....I have a pair of A. polymnus in a bta, had a pair of australian blacks in a bta, and black occelaris. I have yet to see a wild caught percula (false or true) reject a BTA long term. I find it is also the exception rather than the rule that CB clowns will not host in an anemone. I started using nylon string anemones in my grow out tanks. The juviniles and babies alike would only leave them to snatch food.

I have a local carpet in my tank and just added two young (very small) Percs to my tank. They are most likely Sumatra strain and would be what most folks refer to as false Percs. I'd like to see the genetics of the two, I'm of the opinion that they are siblings sepatated by distance. Only genetics can tell.

Being the son of a geneticist, it would not be odd to question ...

Anyway, my probable locally collected pair of "false" percs gravitated to the local carpet anemone within minutes, and have not departed, except to feed. They are happy campers.

    Cheers,
    Ray
