Yeah, unfortunately I think time would lead to them eventually being a snack. Especially as he gets bigger. They are beautiful majestic fish but really limit your options on tank mates. They can also get to a point that feeding them can get a bit pricey. All that said i do miss mine.

What about plumbing the ten gallon into his system? This would give the added benefit of having the bacterial volume of the larger tank aiding in the filtration process. Assuming of course they would get along in that sized tank. Personally, I'd get at least a20 tall for them or better yet a29.

I have to say this forum is awesome! You guys and gals on here are always helpful.

Too bad Lions have to eat everything. They are probably my favorite looking fish, so I am still very happy that I got it.

Yeah, it sounds like I will have to end up setting up a second tank for little princess lol.

I do have an old fluval 405 canister filter setting around somewhere that I used for a 55 gallon FW tank years ago.
Do you think this would be OK to run a smaller tank if I turned down the flow?
I am thinking about putting some of my sand and liverock in, possibly an anemone or two(not sure how difficult they are to keep)
Would this be ok for a temporary solution until I can get a decent deal on a 20 or 30 gallon?

:) I'm glad you are happy with our help. As for the canister, I bet it could work. I feel bad your local fish store is so mean. If you could find a 30 gallon I've figured out if you have a bubble tip anemone that you can keep up to 3 clowns in there. One of my lfs keeps 4 clowns in a 29 gallon Biocube reef and that works fine for them. It just depends on the temperament of the fish. If you see the 2 of them fighting, that means to separate them now. (Trust me, you might come down to a dead clown or 2 in the morning.)
    I hope this helps!

Alright, I guess I will give the 10 gallon a shot with the equipment I have. My daughter has been bugging me for her own tank for awhile, so I guess this is the excusse I needed to set one up for her.
I know it sounds like it is to small but I would rather them be in a smaller tank, then become lunch and dinner in the next week.
In the meantime I will keep my eye out for a good deal on a 30 gallon.

DO NOT put 3 clowns in 1 tank. While yes this may work as juvies, eventually they will kill off 1 and you will be left with a male/female pair! DO NOT DO THIS!

And i kept 2 clowns in a 5gal fluval edge tank for about a year and a half. No problem. A 10 gal will be plenty of room for 2 clowns for a while!

I am not saying it is impossible, just not a good idea unless your an expert/lucky. LOL

Yeah, toall is right. It really depends on if you have really cooperative clowns. They should do fine. Oh, and don't worry about if you have a male and a female, since male clowns (I know it's odd) become a female when the female in the group dies. 3 or 4 in a 30 gal are very hard to keep from fighting. They will kill each other if they don't like each other.
    Good luck!

This is actually not true.Clowns live in groups in the wild all the time and can live peacefully for many years in groups of 5 or more. I have kept groups of three.;) Housing an anemone in such a small system will be a challenge but if you are to add an anemone the tank size usually is not as important. That is where the Clowns should stay (hopefully). Keeping stable parameters, good water quality, and adequate lighting are VERY important with Anemone's.
