Will someone pick a fish for me?

So My tank is about 2 months old now, and I have gone through some tradgedy's with it (ie. few fish died). So I have let my tank settle now for the last 3 weeks with no fish in it and only a few small frags, snails, and a green brittle. I think it is ready for a new fish, but I have no idea what to get. It's a reef tank( or will be one). I don't want a tang yet. What fish do you think I should get? The fish with the most amount of votes will be in my tank. Just to be safe I will wait until next Tuesday to get it. Thank You!

 

Well you shouldnt get a tang or angel until your tank is at least 6 months old.
Green Brittle?? Is it a serpent by any chance?? just to warn you they are predators!!

First fish?? Well a clown is always good! I like blennys too.

 

why not try some enexpensive damsels i.e green chromis ( the most gentle of damsels )
Or you can try others , Pleanty of colors to choose from.

And best not to spend a gob of money on one fairly nice tang and and find out your tank is still cycling./having problems with water parameters.

You should always make sure the tank has completed it's cycling process, prior to adding fish or near to it's very end.
Make sure salinity, PH, Alk, etc. are correct before adding any new fish as well.

 

I started off with a clown. Its a great fish with lots of character and is fun to watch. They are also as hard as nails so if your tank still has some cycling to do then it should be alright

 

Damsels are very hardy but will eventually become a pain in the butt as they become very territorial and aggressive even to fish way bigger than themselves. I would go for an Algae Sailfin Blenny if I were you . You will probably want to get one eventually anyway they might not be that colorful but they are very cool to watch, very peacful and very useful in a reef tank.
Firefish are nice too colorful, peaceful and cheap. Chromis are cheap and peaceful. Yellow Tangs are nice but can be bossy to any other tang you add later (unless the yellow is smaller than the new tang) I would find something that you like and "make a post before you make the purchase " to be safe. 8)

Damsels are cool fish, but should be added later then sooner.

Same with clowns. They can establish large territories early and give later added fish a bad time.

Always start with juveniles of smaller species if you can.

Blennys, gobies are good starter fish.

Starting out with a really nice showpiece type, like a fairy wrasse, etc will instantly turn your tank into an eyecatcher and give the fish plenty of time to get well established before adding others. May slow urge to add too many other fish too fast.

Get a couple nice show shrimp to make tank interesting.

Will experience much less trouble if fish added slowly and again as juveniles.

Make decisions with much thought as what fish you add early, will affect which fish you can add later.

I would go with a mated pair of clowns of some sort...

 

i would go for a 6 line wrasse or a firefish

 

So your tank is cycled but do you know what you Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate levels are in the tank. Without knowing that I would not add fish.

Personally I would make a wish list of fish you want to keep and then ask in what order you should put them in the tank.
No sense putting a fish in your tank you don't really want
