I agree, if they were 3W CREE's you'd probably be ok with just 9, but i think this light is meant for aesthetics rather than coral growing. Also, it will be pretty white.

bummer that it doesnt let you custom pick except for 4 options. You could always just buy a couple more blues to make it 8/4 or 6/3 with some UVs

i could always add more blue led to the heatsink later, so it shouldnt be too bad i figure.

good call, always go as big as you can with dimmable. Ya can always dial it back!;) Easier to do that than add to it.

Prob not with many highlight corals in it, you'd be pushing it. But the 24 would be enough, for sure

LOL, sorry, we got ya from $30 to $100 now.

You could always try it and see, it may work. Maybe just order a bigger heat sink now, so if ya need to add 12 more leds and another driver, it will be easier.

I have a light system from them.

    http://www.aquatraders.com/LED-Reef-Bright-p/56212.htm

That sits over my 10g and everything has been fine so far. I don't have any sps but I am going to try one despite everyone's negative comments when I asked the same original question. It makes all of my corals look great. In fact my last coral to get is a birdsnest and I think as ling as you put it high in the tank in the light it will be fine. The lights are a lot brighter than most would imagine.

At my work office we have t8 fixtures with 4 bulbs in each. Across the room I fired up my leds and pointed it at the fixture and it overpowered the lights and could clearly tell my LEDs were way brighter.

If i had any complaint though it would be the angle of the lights are pretty focused. They light my tank great but would look better suspended 6 inches above my tank rather than sitting on top of it... But as the light spreads the intensity lowers...

One day I will test this soon and finally have proof these lights are as good as I hoped... Either way my shrooms, gorgonians, and zoas are very happy with the lights even though that doesn't prove the sps would be happy.
