    When I inherited my tank the nitrates were over 200. I cut back on feeding first off.

    I did 2 water changes per week for a couple months, added a fuge with chaeto and mangroves, now my nitrates are 0 and have been that way for months.

    That is a much better solution than a denitrator:)

    It's not a ticking time bomb either.

    I have a 210g and I do an 80 gal water change each month. You should probably increase your water changes until they come down. Bring a water sample to your LFS to double check your findings. Sometimes it could be the test kit.
