I have a 240 gallon tank that I am still in the build process. I acquired this 35 gal tank last night for $20.00 and I thought I could make it work but know I am unsure:confused:

I was going to just use it for my sump / return and I have another 40 gallon tank I was gong to use as my fuge. I know I would have to have the fuge higher than the sump to flow water from the fuge to sump. I am most worried that in the loss of power the sump would overflow.

How do I determine the amount of water that would flow from the display to the sump? I will have the flex nozzels drilled near water level to break the siphen. So I guess I need to figure out how much water will make it down the overflow before leveling out?

Does anyone know how to figure it out?

Here is a link to my build to answer any questions about the setup.

    Bogie,

Do you know about how much water will continue to the sump so I can get the baffles at the right height?

Tangster answered me with an email. I am going to use the 40 gal as the sump and the 35 gal as the refugium. Thanks guys.

I thought I would need them to keep the bubbles from the skimmer area reaching the pump. I just see that several others have done that.

I plan on putting a bulkhead in the sump and connect that to my return pump for the display tank.

If I don't need them let me know that will just save more money also.

I myself would set the skimmer out of or on top of the sump then allow the outlet to run through a container holding some carbon and filter padding . I set mine up on the sumps rim then I made a acrylic Hang on the inside the sump that is 14" tall 4" wide and 14" long and all my outlet from skimmer runs into that . I inject ozone and the water has to pass over carbon . Better ways that pay benefits to stop any bubble rather then a baffle I have never needed them.. And I run a 9,700 GPH pump.on a 40 breeder sump.
