Ive got a 100 gallon and am building a sump/fuge, diy bulkheads...etc. I want your knowledge on if this setup will work or not. It isnt to scale but gives a general representation of the project. A couple of questions... how high should by baffles be (from top, from bottom). and also will the skimmer in the picture provided work in a setup like this? thanks

My bro-in-law has that exact setup, right down to the same skimmer. That design will def. work and work well. What size tank will you be using? My bro-in-law is using a 38g on his 90g and it fits in his stand niceley. That skimmer will work, but you may have to put it on sum sort of stand (pvc rods or light difuser) to get the internal water lever correct.

The only thing is you want a unrestricted flow from your drain. So nothing goes wrong. You need to split off that and control the flow to the fuge. So somehow, the piping needs to get flow to the fuge, but you do not want to restrict the flow of the main drain to do that. Sort of risky.

In general... yes. The baffles only need to be what you want. Figure out your sand depth for your fuge. 10" of water is a lot. Mine is 15" total for volume. The skimmer section needs to be set for the skimmer. Set it higher than needed. That way you can always lower your skimmer, but you can't lower the level if you need to. Put your skimmer on a stand.

Having said all that, you need to leave enough room in your sump/fuge to catch all the water when the power goes out. That is your only concern. Maximize volume, leave safety room for water.
