Hey Will, definitely getting some good growth going in your tank. Seems to be happy for sure! :)

I just noticed you were talking about DIY 2 part, I hope I don't get in trouble for this.... but here is a link to the recipe I use: An Improved Do-it-Yourself Two-Part Calcium and Alkalinity Supplement System by Randy Holmes-Farley - Reefkeeping.com

I use the prestone (which may be hard to find in cali) driveway heat (ice melter) and baking soda..... SOOOOOO much cheaper then all the premixed type stuff. I bought a 5g bucket of the ice melt and will probably never use it all. Going on 2 yrs now I think (most of which was with my 180g even) and still have probably 3/4 of it left LOL It is really simple to do tho, I just bought a couple 1g jugs of distilled water, poured them out and made my mixes w/ RO/DI.

Thanks Chris! Yea I'm super happy with the growth. Seems they grow a lot when I work a lot since I'm not home when the lights are on. When I am home and the lights are on everything has noticeable difference.

The link you posted is actually the one I was looking at. I won't tell I promise.

The ice melter will definitely be hard to find in any store here in San Diego but I will try this new thing that all the kids are using now called the "google machine" or something like that. Lol apparently you can get anything on there.

I guess a little bit goes a long way huh.

I still have yet to need to dose anything, my parameters are staying stable and the sps aren't sucking up too much of the ca or alk. I guess the weekly or bi weekly wc are doing everything good.
I am just going to keep up with what in doing because its working for me and if I do need to dose I still have some bionic 2 part left.

Thanks again for the info and for the inspiring words.

I don't want to start a huge debate on another guys thread but something tells me it is probably from the same source. Have you seen the guys that make their videos. They just don't look like they can be trusted....JK JK JK

No problem. Debate all you want. As long as your not arguing with me I have no issues with a little friendly discussion. Lol. I am still doing some reading but to be honest it seems like a lot of work to make your own and I would actually like to know what the actual cost savings is to make it yourself.

It takes me maybe 10 minutes to make both parts.... total. I fill a 1g jug about half way with RO/DI, scoup the required ingredient for that part funnel it in, shake the crap out of the capped jug and go to the next part, do the same thing with the 2nd part, shake some more then fill the jugs the rest of the way up. Then when I need to use them I shake them a little and dose..... pretty simple. I do the recipe that you DON'T bake the baking soda and it works great for me and my acro's :)

whether you buy it from BRS or do it DIY, you are still going to have to do the mixing. you could go buy the premixed 2 part stuff but that gets really expensive, really fast.

    Thanks Daniel.
If I may ask, what is the difference between ESV 2 part Bionic and the brs 2 part. I see the price difference and I have used ESV with great success in the past.
I have no problems mixing I just don't want to order the wrong stuff and be the guy that killed his tank because he put something dumb in.
I would feel more comfortable getting the right stuff from brs and know for sure. Just a weird thing of mine I guess.
