I live in Houston and got slammed by Ike. We lsot power for 11 days. I did have a generator that ran a lot of stuff. A 6000w will run a ton of stuff including 2 fridges a 10,000 btu AC unit my 52" plasma and my tank. What I did learn was a if you have a generator you can get a narutal gas kit to run the motor. They make natual gas kits for just about every small engine out there.

If you have gas in your home than just order the kit for your small motor. My kit was about $225 and as long as your natural gas is working your motor will run till it falls apart. Also you can go propane but a 25lbs tank is like 5 gallons of gas an not truly wotrh the effort. Plus natural gas burns much cleaner and there is no mess.

Also once the natural gas plate is installed you don't have to remove it to run regular gas which is a major plus.

Running the generator for at 90% the 6 gallon tank last for about 9 hours. We spent about $300 or so on gas if not more so do the math..

    Hope this helps.

How much natural gas does it use? Is it cheaper than gasoline?

I'm thinking about getting a 4800W unit, but now I'm waiting for the prices to come down or a good used one to go on sale.

They will cost a lot now but if you wait you will do well. Here in FL. a few years later they're are a lot of used generators for good prices.
