I went shopping at my LFS the other day and i overheard a conversation taking place between some guy and the owner. He said his wife had dumped Clorox into his 125g tank and it killed everything. I felt really bad for the guy:( good thing my gf likes my tank...and me!!

This isn't a tank story, but a bowl story. When I was about 7 years old, I had two angelfish in a bowl with a heater. It was very cold one night, and I wanted them to be warm. :) I cranked that thing to max. I remember crying when I woke up and the water was boiling! The angelfish were stewed.

    "What a terrible heater!" I thought. :)

i freshwater, there is a species called pangassius catfish, they have very poor eyesight so they are very spooky. It is common for big ones to get spooked by you simply steping too hard near the tank and they bolt into walls and shatter sides.

my dad had a friend w/ 2 big huskies that knocked over his 29 gallon reef, he was gone so he couldn't save them either

As a fellow FL resident, i use a power inverter hooked up to a car battery and that has powered my two 55g's and 20g. or, when it's out for really long, my pops starts up the generator, we are thinking about getting one of those generators that come on automatically and they run on natural gas, those things power the entire house too. thats going to be really convenient

Well back in the day my father and I had an entire room devoted to aquariums. We built shelves and had all four walls lined with tanks. This was back in the 70's...My mom decided she would clean the tanks, ughh...Good Thing I caught her before too much damage was done. She started with thePiranhnatank, using soap to clean it...We we got home in the nick of time she had just put the fish back in the tank...We were able to save both of them....

I left on a Friday night from Florida going to SC for the weekend. One of the percs in my 12G tank died Friday night. My step daughter told her mother about it. Said they needed to get it out. My ex said to leave it alone, they didn't want to mess with my SW tank. So it stayed there. Dead fish for 2 days. When I got home Sunday morning, everything in the tank was dead. 1000 bucks down the drain. She didn't do it on purpose, she knew not to leave a dead fish in FW but didn't know what effects putting her hands in the tank would have so she left it alone. Between fish and corals, 1000 bucks in 2 days. I set it back up, put two more false percs and more corals in it. She hung an air freshener on the wall across the room. One of the ones that squirts. Ayup, another 500 dollar dead tank. We split up, she kept my 7K 120G setup and the new stand/canopy I custom built for my 90. I don't speak to her anymore and its a good thing. Some things are illegal.
