The problem is that ich can get into your tank in other ways than on fish. Keeping ich out of your tank is like using birth control: you can never be sure.

good analogy, and this is very true. ich can enter many ways. putting in sand rocks corals fish etc. any piece of used equipment could maybe introduce ich. this happend to me once i got a refugium from a guy and the next day after installation every fish in my tank had ich.

Which is why I concentrate on having the most stable, stress free tank I can. I don't quarantine because it just stresses the qt'd fish out more. The only time I've lost a whole tank to disease/parasites was when I introduced velvet on a piece of live rock. Never from a new fish.

Yeah but like birth control, if you do the right thing you can be protected 99% of the time.

For corals keep them in quarantine for 6 weeks and ich can't live without fish.

Also with used equipment if you keep it dry and clean it you should never have this problem.

People just aren't patient and it causes ich problems. I am not saying you have quarantine, but if you do it right you won't have ich. This is true even on the most stressed fish.

Edit: I don't want to hijack this tread and get into a quarantine debate, but just my 2 cents if he wants to get this fish. I personally would quarantine it, or add it before anything else and do hypo. Since it is a new tank this might be the best of both worlds.

sorry but that is exactly the point, if your purchasing your fish from a reputable dealer like live aquaria who has a very good reputation, you know they have just qt'd the fish for weeks, and is healthy and your system is healthy.
SO why would you qt this fish again?

You do not have to apologize you can make your point without, discounting mine.

If my instructors in Marine Biology witnessed a fish or anything going into a system with other animals without proper quarantine, you would have received a stern warning, if not worse.

Let the op make the decision based on the information provided.
