bettas have a labyrinth organ (I think that's what it's called) that allows them to breath air...

Gotch ya, do tetras have that same ability? I was just thinking about the original problem you had, and thought that it's not easy to achieve a lot of surface agitation in 2g of water, so unless there's an air stone in there, they may have been breathing heavily due to lack of air.

Behind the tank is an overflow, which basically returns the water back into the tank. There is plenty of surface agitation.

I ended up returning the dead fish. I got some credit and I got a betta in replacement. I had to basically turn off the pump because it was TOO much flow for the Betta.
The pump is technically still on but I disconnected the return and now I just allow a little bit of water to pass through. ( not sure if it makes sense). The point of it is that there is water movement without it being too much.

Is there anything (other than snails) that I can add to this tank to make it better? I don't want to over stock it but it seems a bit too simple for my taste. I realize this is a very small tank.. but MAYBE, there is something else I can add? it doesn't have to be a fish. It can be anything really.

So I removed the bamboo and just left the three little plants there. I hope they grow fast :) What do you guys think? So far it seems like the betta is doing good. It ate it's food just a minute ago.

LOL, just cause It's hanging in the last photo.....Was the Betta "Made In China", or was this just a clever insert?

On the other hand, I really like the look of that fish. Nice catch.

Looks good, Zeus would def. fit the betta IMO.
55g fowlr- No tetras don't have this ability, look up labyrinth fish and that may help.
